How to make Homemade Waffles
Scroll down for amounts of ingredients
Step 1- Preheat your waffle iron
Grease and preheat waffle iron. I like to use the highest setting BUT this will really depend on your waffle iron.
Step 2 - Make the waffle batter
In a microwave safe bowl add the butter and melt it. To the melted butter add the milk, 1 tsp of lemon juice and egg and whisk to combine.Do not skip the lemon juice as it activates the baking soda. If you don't have lemon juice you can substitute it with 1 tsp of vinegar.
In a separate bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Now combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients and whisk until well combined. Do not over mix, but make sure there's no large lumps of flour.
Step 3 - Cook the waffles
Pour the batter into the waffle maker and cook waffles until golden. This can take anywhere between 3-5 minutes.
Once cooked serve immediately.

Pro Tips
A good indication to know your waffles are ready is when the steam dissipates.
Don't lift the lid too early or the waffles will stick to the iron.
This recipe makes 2 large or 3 smaller waffles. Feel free to double or tripple the recipe as needed.
You can make a big batch of waffles, allow them to cool, transfer them to a ziplock bag and freeze for up to 3 weeks. Then once ready to eat, pop these in your toaster!
